March Test Drive Meme

 Test Drive Meme #2

Fire and Ice

Days. Four of them, to be exact. Those four days--four days and four nights--have been nothing but rain of varying intensities, but it hasn't stopped. It pours down in heavy torrents, sweeping away the grime and decay of the crumbling city. It floods the banks of the oasis and it drowns all nearby plants. To the point; it's a right pain to anyone hunting for game. Everything has taken refuge to higher grounds. Well, everything except the infected. They seem confused by this phenomenon. It rouses them from their dormant states and pushes them to be more active. If you find yourself out and about in the rain, you may want to bring a decent weapon with you and a friend to watch your back. Or to trip should you find yourself in trouble.

What's worse than all that precipitation, you ask? Why would you even ask that? Haven't you seen a single horror movie? Well, since you asked; what's worse than rain is hail. How could that possibly make the situation more dire? You aren't worried about the insurance on your car, so who cares? You're sure full of dangerous questions, aren't you?

Hail impacts the ground, the buildings, the cars, and the wall with a mighty raucous. The sound as it hits the pavement is deafeningly louder than the sound it makes when it impacts the waterlogged earth, slowed by the trees blocking its descent. It won't take long at all before the group of survivors holed up in the city will notice a mass of shambling Iraites beginning to congregate against the walls and gates, attracted by the noise. They're toppling over each other and pressing against the boundaries. The gate looks like it might buckle under all that weight like a dam about to burst. You might wanna do something about reinforcing that gate, or maybe even start taking out the horde if you can. There are still hunters and gatherers out in the forest. If they come back to this mess, they'll never make it into the city alive.

If that's not enough trouble, you suddenly have another problem. Between the rain and the hail and the infected, a loud crack of lightning hits a tree near one of the crash sites. You can see the smoke all the way from the city and it lights up the edge of the forest. But that's so far away, how could it pose any trouble? You ask, because you obviously have a death wish. Well friend, you may recall a certain crashed shuttle in about that very direction. Such a thing is leaking some rather potent accelerant. Find a way to contain that fire or you won't have to worry about the infected anymore. You won't have to worry about much when the blaze takes out the forest and creeps through the city with a lazy hunger that cannot be sated.

[Mod Note: Pick any scenario, mix and match, or combine them all into one chaotic mess of death and mayhem. Feel free to do a crash scenario from the first TDM. Enjoy~]

Smarter and faster? Just exactly what kind of walkers were these damn things? Though that wasn't the biggest thing that started to bother her, it was when he mentioned that those kind of walkers seemed to have more going on. They could climb, run and that was enough to make her stomach turn a bit.

"Are you sure those are walkers?"

Because they sure as hell didn't sound like the ones back home.

"Looks like there might be one" she then called back to him lowly as she glanced around to see if by chance there was anything she could protect herself with.

Daryl thought he was getting close to one of the pods, though he was probably still five minutes out. A lot could happen in five minutes. And if it was the wrong one? He'd have another twenty minutes of travel at the very least.

"Yeah," Daryl answered. "Pretty damn sure."

And then because of how she was talking, Daryl chanced a guess, "You left the ship didn't you?"

She kept her eyes sharp and locked ahead of her. She knew how to handle walkers back home but these new walkers sounded more like a huge pain than they did a challenge.

"Any idea on how in the hell they're quicker and smarter?" she asked him lowly as she went back to glancing around for something to hopefully fight with.

"Maybe."

Daryl made no attempt to hide the next frustrated growl. Of course she'd gotten out and not listened to him. She didn't like sitting around when she thought she could help. Woman was too stubborn for her own good.

"No," he grumbled. "Just know they are. You found yourself something to hurt them with yet? A rock, a fallen branch? Any metal you can twist off to poke some eyes out with?"

With any luck, the rain would erase her scent until the walkers were right up on her. And block their eyesight enough that if she didn't move too much, they'd ignore her in favor of trying to get into the ship.

That growl was enough to make her smile slightly. He should know by now that she was no longer the woman that would just coware away and pray he come rushing to her rescue. She had grown past that, she could save herself.

She was already well ahead of him now once he asked if she had any kind of weapon. Thankfully she had found a rather nice branch that had fallen not too far from her pod. It looked sharp enough, at least enough to get the job done but that didn't stop her from sinking her hand into the wet mud in order to grab the sharpest rock she could find.

"You worry too much," she called back to him.

Probably. But she also hadn't had any experience with runners. And that was worrisome in and of itself.

"Fine," he snapped, "Tell me if you get bit." Which wasn't the nicest thing to say, but he wasn't even sure if he was close enough to her to watch her back.

It was then followed up with a quieter, though no less frustrated, "Don't get bit."

Her eyes narrowed slightly at his sudden snappy comment. As if he could actually see the glare she was giving him.

She opened her mouth to snap back but something was quick to make her not say a word. Her eyes were quick to scan around the area for a sign of any kind of sudden movement and with that she remained silent for a moment.

These walkers were closer than she thought.

And just before she had time to estimate just how close, a deadly hand came swiping out at her in the pouring rain. It was enough to make her quickly react and dodge out of the way. The walker made a noise and another swipe, causing her to slip back slightly along the mud.

Thankfully she had the pod for some leverage and she was able to swing out of harms way and cause the walker to stumble against the pod a bit, with that she was quick to bring the glass down along its head.

The lack of response was worse than any chastisement she might have given him. The sound of something breaking or snapping, hard and loud, moments later, was worse. All sense of caution went out the window and Daryl broke into a flat-out run.

He came crashing through the trees and undergrowth and into the backs of two walkers that were slowly turning toward the sound he'd been making. They both went down fast. His knife in the skull of the first and the purple and blue nerf bow cracked the head of the second. Across the clearing, with four more walkers between them, was Carol.

His entrance had made enough of a distraction for the group that for a second or two they hesitated while trying to decide which target to go after. That gave Daryl enough time to load the child's toy with an 'arrow' tipped with a four inch metal spike and fire it off into one of the four.

Three to go.

[personal profile] notaafraidanymore 2016-03-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Carol was quick to spin around once she heard crashing through the trees. It was a huge relief to see that Daryl had finally reached her but that didn't stop her heart from speeding up when she noticed that the noise only seemed to catch the walkers attention. They seemed to a bit off guard as to which target to go for next and Carol used that to her advantage.

Daryl could use a moment.

She grapsed the branch in her hand and moved to beat it along the pod for a moment to gain at least one's attention and that she did. One came at her rather swiftly with it's hissing and low growls. She was quick to move the old branch up and send the sharp end stabbing against the walkers skull.

Another down.

Another walker had turned around in pure in interest as well and had already been making its way towards Carol too. The mud was a little slicker than she had hoped for and it was a bit harder to keep her balance. So when the next walker made it's first swipe at her she almost felt herself fall back as she dodged the walkers swipe.

With Carol taking out one of the three and distracting a second, Daryl was able to move in and take out the third with only a little effort. He had to knock it back with a kick to give himself room. But after that, he managed to get an arrow through it's eye.

The last walker was going at Carol, arms failing as it tried to get a grip on her. The mud proved to be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it was having just as hard a time standing as Carol was. A curse because Carol was sliding around too much get a good hit on it. And it's sliding made it hard for Daryl to get a good bead on it to shoot.

He had to go in, up close and personal. The arrow he'd shot into the eye of the second-to-last got yanked out and it was that which he came over to join the small scuffle. He grabbed the back of the walker's neck and yanked it up. The long point of the arrow followed the motion, sliding in up under the chin. The tips were as long as they were to make sure they'd reach the brain no matter where they entered the head.

The walker went limp and Daryl tossed it away. His hand now free, he held it out to help Carol up, and then pull her into a hug. He could have chided her again, but honestly? He was too relieved to see her safe and alive to get on her ass anymore about leaving the safety of the ship.

Carol could feel her heart stop as she watched Daryl move swiftly to take out the final walker. She knew damn well it was both silly and foolish to worry so much about him in moments such as these. Daryl of all people had shown many of time he could very much survive in a world like this.

It only made her heart freeze even more when he had to get a lot closer to the walker in order to kill the thing.

She watched as he killed the walker in one swift motion, then it went limp and Daryl tossed it aside so that he could reach out to her. It surprised her just how fast she accepted his hand and embrace. Her smaller arms moved to wrap around him quickly, taking in his warm hug.

One of her famous Susie home maker outfits was now ruined. Caked with some mud and blood but it was rather strange how that suited her better. The outfit was the last thing on her mind at the moment.

She was in a strange new place but she had him. She took a moment to close her eyes as one hand gently cupped the back of his head.

She wasn't fully alone.

Daryl let her hold him there, head tucked into her shoulder with her hand on the back of his head. Just for a moment. A long moment, maybe. But things weren't peaceful enough to let it linger too long. He had to pull away eventually.

He shivered from the rain. It was cold enough for hail to be forming, which wasn't good for anyone when they were already so wet. They needed to get inside somewhere. Get warm. Wouldn't be able to do it for long, but they still needed to.

Daryl glanced at the pod a moment and made a mental note of where it was for future retrieval. There were parts in there that Han fellow would want and Padme would need to know, too. So she could help organize runs to it. Then he turned and went to get his arrows and his knife.

He gave a look back at Carol and waved for her to follow him back the way he'd come, "Gotta get back. Gates need holding."

Carol felt all the tension leave her body as she gently kept him against her shoulder. It was a huge relief that he had found her but that had never once been a problem for him had it? She was alsp glad that who ever had kidnapped them hadn't hurt him and that he was safe.

Her smaller form shivered against him slightly as the storm beat down along them and continued to dance violently across the sky. She watched as he pulled back from her, gathering his weapons and motioned for her to follow.

She wasn't hesitant at first but moved after him.

"Is this place we're going safe?"

He should have know she would ask because if this place wasn't safe or the people then she would take matters into her own hands if need be.

"Trying to make it so it is," he answered softly, holding back on his longer stride so she could catch up. She'd end up walking behind him, but that didn't mean he needed to get real far ahead of her.

"It's a walled city. Small. Walls were put up before." Before the dead started walking, not just before they got there. "Gets a lot of rain, tho, and most of the paper's long since rotted. So far no one's been able to find any clue of what city it used to be. We ain't in America, though. Stars ain't right. Well, they're right. For Earth. But not for where we was."

If that seemed like an odd way to put things, he did have a reason for it.

She had already guessed they were long gone from Alexandria but that didn't mean she liked or felt comfortable about any of this. The more Daryl went on about this place the more uneasy she felt.

"Who did this, do you know who just randomly took us and why?"

It was questions she needed to know in order to prepare herself for this place. She would stay under cover if she needed too. That way she could stay low key, keep a close eye on the people and sneak around if need be.

"And what about home?"
dirtyredneck: (Action Moving (6))

[personal profile] dirtyredneck 2016-03-06 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Daryl shook his head at the first question, rain water flying with his hair, "No one does. One of the others is trying to get one of the radios to work again. See if we can contact whoever's been sending the ships."

As for home... "Don't know what's been goin' on since Glenn and I found ourselves here. It's been a few weeks. Don't remember being taken, neither. But it happened." They wouldn't be there if they hadn't.

"Got ourselves a group, though. Most of the survivors of the first crash. The ship me and Glenn were in. Some others that've come down since. There're a few who don't wanna join the group. They mostly take care of themselves out here, in the forest. The rest of us been making parts of the city ours. Half of us are at an old warehouse that's got itself a sturdy fence. The other half is at an old hotel with a decent number of floors between them and the ground."

They had places to run if one got overwhelmed. Plenty of space to live in without feeling crowded. A whole city to scavenge on a regular basis. And plenty of hunting in the woods. Could be a lot worse. Could be like the three weeks between Atlanta and Alexandria. Daryl was glad they weren't at that point. Hoped they never would be.

[personal profile] notaafraidanymore 2016-03-06 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait, Glenn was taken too?" she calls back to him. The information he was giving her was a bit overwhelming but more frustrating to the fact it made her head hurt. Her hand went up to gently rub along her forehead.

"You were out on that run weren't you?" she called softly. That had been the last time she saw himwas when he decided to join Aaron in search of others. Others who they could bring back with them and build the community of Alexandria.

Though at the mention of others, she felt her head jerk forward and she came to a stop. Daryl of all people knew how she became when it came down to new places, new people. She became weary, guarded and she sure as hell wasn't quick to trust anyone.
dirtyredneck: (Neutral Conversation (07))

[personal profile] dirtyredneck 2016-03-06 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he knew she didn't trust other people. But she trusted him. Didn't she?

"They follow me," he said quietly, turning after he realized she wasn't moving behind him anymore. "We ain't got a council this time. Not yet. And we ain't got Rick. They follow me."
notaafraidanymore: (Default)

[personal profile] notaafraidanymore 2016-03-06 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That she did. She had always trusted him, that was a given.

She moved to wrap her arms around her small frame, eyes locking with his own as he turned around and was quick to say that these people, these strangers happened to follow him. Still she felt a bit uneasy about the fact he had found and formed a whole new group.

"And if they turn on you?"
dirtyredneck: (Neutral Interested (11))

[personal profile] dirtyredneck 2016-03-06 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Daryl shook his head, denying that possibility. Group was too small for that shit. And the various 'leaders' of the smaller groups within it had already agreed to following Daryl's rules. He was in charge as much as anyone could be.

"Most of them ain't had a clue what walkers were 'fore we met up," he explained. "Most of them ain't got a clue how to hunt or scavenge properly neither. Some do. They're contributing. But most of them is still learning. I trust the ones we got right now."
notaafraidanymore: (Default)

[personal profile] notaafraidanymore 2016-03-06 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust was such a strong and heavy word to use due to the world they lived in. Trust was something that just wasn't common anymore, it was abused, tossed aside but she glanced back towards him once he explained that most of these people couldn't really survive in these conditions.

Yet another thing that wasn't too surprising. They had came upon people like that a good time or two.

"I don't like this" she admitted honestly after a good moment or two of silence.

"And for all their sakes I hope you're right about them."

Because the very moment any one of them dare do something that could possibly threaten or harm Daryl, she would kill them.

dirtyredneck: (Neutral Conversation (03))

[personal profile] dirtyredneck 2016-03-06 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Daryl hoped he was, too.

"Come on. We need to get moving," Daryl jerked his head and turned around again. He wasn't going to keep arguing with Carol. Wasn't the time for it. She understood what she needed to now. The rest could wait.

The gates needed to be held.
notaafraidanymore: (Default)

[personal profile] notaafraidanymore 2016-03-06 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She watched as he turned around and started forward once again. At least he had some kind of an idea about this place so they weren't at a total loss. That didn't make her feel any less cautious about anything or these people he had grouped up with.

With a low sigh she moved to follow behind him once again. After all it wasn't like she had anywhere else she could possibly go.
