 Test Drive Meme #2

Fire and Ice

Days. Four of them, to be exact. Those four days--four days and four nights--have been nothing but rain of varying intensities, but it hasn't stopped. It pours down in heavy torrents, sweeping away the grime and decay of the crumbling city. It floods the banks of the oasis and it drowns all nearby plants. To the point; it's a right pain to anyone hunting for game. Everything has taken refuge to higher grounds. Well, everything except the infected. They seem confused by this phenomenon. It rouses them from their dormant states and pushes them to be more active. If you find yourself out and about in the rain, you may want to bring a decent weapon with you and a friend to watch your back. Or to trip should you find yourself in trouble.

What's worse than all that precipitation, you ask? Why would you even ask that? Haven't you seen a single horror movie? Well, since you asked; what's worse than rain is hail. How could that possibly make the situation more dire? You aren't worried about the insurance on your car, so who cares? You're sure full of dangerous questions, aren't you?

Hail impacts the ground, the buildings, the cars, and the wall with a mighty raucous. The sound as it hits the pavement is deafeningly louder than the sound it makes when it impacts the waterlogged earth, slowed by the trees blocking its descent. It won't take long at all before the group of survivors holed up in the city will notice a mass of shambling Iraites beginning to congregate against the walls and gates, attracted by the noise. They're toppling over each other and pressing against the boundaries. The gate looks like it might buckle under all that weight like a dam about to burst. You might wanna do something about reinforcing that gate, or maybe even start taking out the horde if you can. There are still hunters and gatherers out in the forest. If they come back to this mess, they'll never make it into the city alive.

If that's not enough trouble, you suddenly have another problem. Between the rain and the hail and the infected, a loud crack of lightning hits a tree near one of the crash sites. You can see the smoke all the way from the city and it lights up the edge of the forest. But that's so far away, how could it pose any trouble? You ask, because you obviously have a death wish. Well friend, you may recall a certain crashed shuttle in about that very direction. Such a thing is leaking some rather potent accelerant. Find a way to contain that fire or you won't have to worry about the infected anymore. You won't have to worry about much when the blaze takes out the forest and creeps through the city with a lazy hunger that cannot be sated.

[Mod Note: Pick any scenario, mix and match, or combine them all into one chaotic mess of death and mayhem. Feel free to do a crash scenario from the first TDM. Enjoy~]

Were he to ask her, she would tell him that yes, she'd bent the metal herself. Using it until she'd found the tarp-like cloth which carried much, much more water, but was far heavier.

She can hear him as he goes. "I could." She answers, darting back to the ship to retrieve the project she'd been working on before she determined the fire was moving too quickly. Her right arm shifted, the metal swirls congregating there, before it fanned out and oozed over a hunk of machinery she'd dissected from the ship. It wouldn't fly again, that she knew, so gutting it was of no detriment to her.

"However, with you stalling the fire, we have a more efficient means. We are working on it now." She continues, hefting the mechanical mess of an arm up, pulling fuel injector and coolant hoses from the innards of the ship. Any hose or tube she could find was worked into the device. Missing joints or items that didn't fit properly were filled in with the purple substance to form an air-tight seal. Lastly, the tarp was added for a containment bag.

She then darts back to the water source, dipping one hose into the water and focused the Symbiote into activating the small engine, causing suction. It began drawing water into the bag until it was nearly bursting at the seams. The purple goo stretched, giving more room to fill, supporting the bag across her shoulders. There was obvious strain, despite her face being entirely covered.

The answer to his other question answers that, too. Obviously someone capable of ripping a tree out of the ground could do something like shape a piece of metal. Which means... she's strong. Really strong. He might want to try to not piss her off, at least until he can arm himself more decently.

"Alright then." More efficient? Well, he'd like to see that. And looks like he probably will. He knows better than to doubt someone with a living tentacle catsuit or whatever.

He gets a bowlful of water and returns to the fire, pouring it where she'd left off, then goes to get more, again and again. He's moving more quickly now, surprisingly easily considered the weight he's carrying, though not quite on supernatural levels. More like someone with extensive physical training.

...holy shit what the hell was that.

"Voooooi, don't throw out your back!" is the wittiest response he can manage while watching this... quite unbelievable display of technology and, apparently, superpowers.

With his lithe frame, he's able to bustle along pretty quickly, and she's grateful for that. His strength easily grants them the time they need.

"We will be fine." She assures him and starts back towards the edge of the fire. She aimed the smaller hose at the base of the fire and sweep back and forth in short bursts like you would a fire extinguisher. The jet of water is narrow, but powerful. By the time she's exhausted all the water in the makeshift pump, the fire is mostly under control around the ship. There was still a bit of a forest fire to deal with, but nothing that would reach the jet fuel.

Scorn drops to her knees, the contraption on her arm falls to pieces beside her and the purple suit melts away from her face.

"Thank you. We--I'm grateful for your help."

Well. Looks like he was lucky to run into her. There's no way Squalo would've managed to construct what essentially served as a portable fire hydrant. Frankly, he's more concerned about the forest than the ship blowing up, though he supposes pieces of it might still be useful -- but they can probably spare a moment or two before tackling it.

There are more concerning matters. He doesn't bother fighting the urge to lean back.

"Hey, whoa. You've got a face."

You're welcome?

She looks up to him and--is that? Yes, yes it might just be the barest hint of a smile on her lips.

"That I do." Tanis pulls herself out of the mud, that somehow manages not to cling to her purple getup, and rises back to her feet. "I'm Dr. Nieves. Tanis. This..." She touches her arm and the purple suit seems to move, swirling the wisps of metal around to caress her hand in response. "is a very complicated story. But there are two of us here, and we can't be separated." She did offer to clear up the 'we' issue, not that that answer probably explained too much.

"There's a radio on the shuttle that looks salvageable. It appears that someone has already been in the process of doing so, actually. It could be the key to finding out what's going on." This is possibly be most she's spoken in a while. How quickly she grew unused to speaking when bonded with a telepathic alien parasite.

She has every intention of putting out the other fires, but without the accelerant to feed them, in this rain, they shouldn't spread too far or too quickly.

Alright, she doesn't seem snotty, that's always a plus. Not that he can't work with people he hates, but hey, small miracles.

"Squalo," he offers his name back, though doesn't extend a hand. He might reconsider if she does it first, though. He watches the suit move with a little bit of amazement. Yeah, he'd bet it's a complicated story. Wonder what else she could remove it from. Heh.

He glances back at the shuttle with a frown. "I can work most communicators but not fix busted ones," he admits. "That someone better finish their job."
