Are OCs accepted?
Yes. However, they will be judged to a higher standard than Canon characters. We want to really understand the world and how it's shaped and affected the original character; it's encouraged not to do the minimum required word counts in OC apps.
What kind of characters does Oasis accept?
Oasis accepts the following type of characters: CANON, ORIGINAL, DOUBLES FROM DIFFERENT UNIVERSES ( MCU Tony Stark, 616 Tony Stark. etc.), CHARACTERS AGED FROM 13 ONWARDS, HUMANISED CHARACTERS, FICTIONAL CHARACTERS BASED ON HISTORICAL FIGURES.
Currently Oasis does not accept the following type of characters: FANDOM OCS, DOUBLES OF THE SAME VERSION, CRAU, FANDOM AU, NON HUMANISED CHARACTERS.
What's the protocol on Fourth-Walling/Canon-Puncturing? Are we making up substitute names for similar canons or just letting it happen on a case by case basis?
So long as all parties involved are in agreement, fourth-walling is acceptable. For example, should a character recognise Captain America as a comic book character they've read, and the player of Steve Rogers is approached OOCly about the situation and agrees, it is acceptable for your character to recognise them. Therefore it would be a case-by-case basis, but is well within the rules.
Do you accept characters who have died in canon, or should they be taken from the point where they're dying but not yet dead?
We do not accept characters from past their death, however if they are taken from a moment where their death may be fixed with surgery (i.e. Someone who has been shot in the stomach) may awaken on the drop ship or in their pod with the obvious post-op injuries alive and well. Otherwise they must be taken before death or the fatal blow.
Can I app a pregnant character?
The Oasis station does not send pregnant characters to the Earth, therefore a character may only be apped from before or after a pregnancy if it is applicable.
Are canon updates a thing?
How do canon updates work?
A character who undergoes a canon update will fall unconscious for three days and then awaken in an NPC's lodging with all their memories of the update but no physical changes.
My character is an android/robot/pony/dragon/alien/whatever, is that acceptable?
In this case, characters are humanised to average human proportions. This is to give no characters an immunity to the Ira Virus. In cases of humanoid aliens, humanisation isn't needed as long as they have a cardiovascular system of some sort.
My character is a shape-shifter, or has a few non-human traits (they're blue, has a bear arm, has a tail, etc), do they still have these traits?
As long as the character is humanoid, and in a shape-shifter's case has a humanoid form, they can keep these traits or may have had them removed during their time on the Oasis Station.
How many characters may I app?
There is a maximum of four characters per player at the moment.
What is the minimum age limit for characters?
The minimum age for a character is 13, characters younger than that are not applicable to this game.
My character appears to be younger than 13 but is mentally an adult?
This is acceptable, just be sure to make a note of it somewhere in the application. This is a case by case basis.
What is the minimum age limit for players?
The minimum age for a player is 18 due to the themes in the setting.
How many characters may I reserve?
There is a maximum of two character reserves per player per app round. This means two per Thursday.
Do you accept Challenge Applications?
No. That defeats the purpose of reserves. However, if an applicant fails to turn in their application by the deadline of their reserve and it expires, rival applicants can submit an app without a reserve.
What about characters with disabilities, especially ones that impair movement? Will they be equipped with something to help their mobility?
Disabled characters' pods will be dropped closer to the city but there will be nothing special sent down with them. Certain items can be requested once communications with the Oasis Station are resumed and will be sent down with the monthly supply dropship.
What about special abilities/superpowers? How much will they be affected in the setting?
There will be no power nerfing unless the powers or skills are game breaking. It's a case by case basis. For example teleportation would be nerfed - we do not need characters teleporting to the Oasis Station, but short range teleportation is fine. With regards to healing and typical immunity to viruses - they would also be nerfed, nothing can heal away the Ira Virus. No characters are immune to the Pestilence (Ira virus).
What does my character remember?
Your character will remember everything up until their canon point and then awakening on the planet. Their time with their captors in space will be wiped from their memories, however a character with mental abilities will be able to tell they've had memories stolen from them but be unable to access them.
What is the Pestilence or Ira virus?
The Ira virus is an alien virus introduced via space-rock to the planet 100 years ago. The virus mutated very similarly to rabies and spread like wildfire throughout the entirety of the world with it's aggressive infection rate.
How is the virus spread?
The Ira virus is spread through bodily fluids, such as saliva or blood. Bites and scratches from infected spread the virus.
What are the symptoms of the virus?
Early symptoms are fever, and pain at the infection site. Those symptoms are followed by: violent movements, uncontrolled agitation and violent tendencies, overproduction of saliva, confusion, and loss or degradation of the pain, speech and memory centers of the brain.
How do you kill the infected?
The Ira virus is simply that - a virus. The host is still alive even if they were lying dormant. A normal killing blow will suffice. It should be noted that the infected do not feel pain therefore they will not be dissuaded by non-fatal attacks.
What happens to my character if they are infected?
Symptoms will be followed by either an optional mercy killing by another character or a remote termination of life by the Oasis Station a week before the monthly dropship; terminated characters will arrive on the planet with a death penalty upon the dropship. So ultimately, either way the infected character will die.
What are the death penalties?
Death penalties are up to the player and can range from: temporary or permanent loss of memories, certain senses, or powers. A death penalty is required if your character has died.
What if my character dies for reasons other than the Ira virus: murder, starvation, exposure, drowning, bear, stupidity, or whatever? Does it work the same as if the infected got them?
Yes, the death penalty rule still applies no matter how your character dies.
What is the network? How does it work?
Upon arrival characters will be equipped with an earpiece radio that must be vocally programmed to them. It works as an audio only channel that works like the "okay google" function or "siri" function of a smart phone, it is a vocal recognition app. Mass audio posts may be made or private character to character.
Can the network be tampered with/hacked for plot or other reasons?
No, your character may not hack or tamper with the network unless your character wants to face the consequences of being blacklisted from the network for a week (hahaha have fun.). Whereas repeat offences will blacklist a character from the network indefinitely.
Can a character further develop a network?
Yes, this is a certain plot that the mods will push at a point in the game to allow video and text options as well.
Is this an AU game?
No. Oasis is a Panfandom survival horror jamjar, which is any game where characters are brought in from their canons and, as the term indicates, jammed into a location with no escape.
How is my character brought here?
Your character has been brought to Earth by the Oasis Station - one of the various space stations that orbit the planet. They will awaken either on a dropship or within a single body escape pod. Their locations are spread around the Oasis zone, which can vary from in the scorching desert to the thick of the forest. Where a character's escape pod is dropped is up to the player whereas the dropship will bring a monthly mingle log with occasional plot twists or events.
What is with my character when they arrive?
Each character accepted throughout the month will be sent down to Earth in an escape pod with only a few supplies for survival in a backpack. Each character accepted on the last Thursday of the month will be sent down with a dropship of supplies from the space station, meant for them and the others currently on the earth. These characters will also be supplied with backpacks.
What are in the backpacks?
The backpacks include typical survival gear: rope, two bottles of water, two bags of trail mix, what appears to be Aspirin, a small blanket, a small flashlight with an extra pair of batteries, and a water filter either a life straw or water purification tablets. And of course an ear piece for the audio network.
If the character is lucky, they will have one of the backpacks with a hunting knife or a hammer in it but those seem to be in short supply.
Additional player added items may be added such as fire-starters, first aid kits, things typical to survival are allowed, but no backpack is filled to give someone a better chance.
There seem to be themes to the backpacks as well, such as ones designated for hunting (backpacks with knifes, aspirin, fire-starters, etc.), or building (backpacks with hammers, rope, duct tape, etc.) or healing (backpacks with a first aid kit, Aspirin, a low grade antibiotic, ect.) but not all are like this.
What planet are they on?
The city in the center of the oasis, how big is it and how advanced was the technology before it went to ruins?
The city spans five miles. The technology is advanced to what would be found during the beginning of 2016 in America.
How tall is the tallest building in the former city and how decayed is it?
The tallest building in the former city is 8 stories tall and is an old hotel. It has a 9th story but due to weathering it's pretty unusable and unstable. It is decayed to that which would be typical of a building that was left in a panic and then spent 100 years abandoned with no upkeep. Weeds and plants grow on what remains of the top floor and stretch out towards the sun. The basement is barricaded from the other side.
How overgrown are the ruins?
The ruins have spent 100 years having been rained on and inhabited by wild animals and infected, therefore there has been no upkeep to keep invasive plants from taking their place among the buildings and streets. Something like ivy seems to climb up the buildings and even the walls of the city, trees have taken root where they can find earth between the cracks of the sidewalks and roads and have pushed their roots out causing damage to quite a lot of the pathways that humans used to walk and drive. Grass takes root wherever it can, as do weeds that have found their way in from the encircling forest.
What kind of forest is it? Temperate vs Tropical? What common plants/trees/vegetation are we looking at? Is this something someone familiar with the North American Mid-West or Rocky Mountains would be at home in, or is it something someone familiar with the Amazon River Basin would be at home in?
The forest takes root in a post-apocalyptic world where plants and animals have been forced to adapt to the situation of the infected and the lack of a large human population but where the leftovers of such a civilization remain. It would not be recognisable to anyone typically familiar with Earth's climate due to the 100 years it's had to evolve. However, the forest would be more typical to the Amazon Rain Forest and tapers off as it gets closer to the desert. This means the forest is more closely related to a tropical forest and gets a healthy amount of rainstorms and thunderstorms. As for the desert nothing seems to grow in it, not even cacti.
What kind of fauna can be found?
There are normal earth animals, what typically shows up in lush forests: deer, squirrels, rodents, rabbits, coyotes, amphibians, birds, snakes, etc. The infection can spread to animals with similar brain chemistry to humans therefore there is a distinct lack of monkeys. There have also been animals that have adapted from the desert climate and encroached into the forest. In the desert there seems to be very little aside from snakes, lizards, and scorpions as if anything that else could remain has been over-hunted. Due to the infected's interest in animals, the fauna have taken refuge in the forest. The infected's habit to over-hunt anything in their wake have lead to animals that wouldn't typically match the environment having moved into and adapted to it.
How tall is the wall?
The wall spans from 10 feet tall in more preserved areas to 3 feet tall in more weathered areas. The wall may be repaired throughout the game.
How big is the forest?
The forest is 30 miles wide and surrounds the entire city, providing protection from the encompassing desert.
How big is the lake?
The lake is 5 miles wide and takes up more than 2/4ths of the forest. One of the boarders lines a quarter of the wall and there is an aqueduct to supply water to the city.
Is there anything under the city?
Under the city is a extensive labyrinth of catacombs that join the sewers and extend far under the forest and spill into the desert.
Is there a map?
What is the day to day ratio?
What threats do they face?
The threats aside from exposure, dehydration, starvation, natural causes etc. are the local wildlife looking for dinner, the infected, and bandits.
