Connor lifted his backpack up to hold over them, though it was shielding more of Murphy than himself. Had to look after his brother, it wasn't a choice, it was instinct. By taking care of Murph, he was taking care of himself - they were two halves of a whole and if anything happened to him, Connor wouldn't be able to survive it.
