She wasn't used to such kindness from strangers these days, and winced as she held out her hands to him, before he even touched her. She could at least pass it off as anticipation of pain. On both palms there were rope burns from her sliding down, but her right hand was worse off.
"I'll be alright," she insisted, figuring he had taken notice of the gashes on her face. "I've been through worse than this."
She didn't protest more than that, though, and watched him with a smile as he helped her with her hands.
