She understood his reaction. Her brother had one like it the first time they all saw walkers too, only without the language. Murphy wasn't her brother but she felt a need to protect him anyway. It was what she did, take care of others. Strangers weren't any different, really.

The second she had the knife secure in her hand she moved forward to attack. She took all that she had been taught and observed over the years and used it to make quick work out of the walkers. The first one with the shattered knee was easy to stab through the head, but she managed to get the knife stuck. It took both hands to tug it out and she did with a grunt, the momentum of the effort enough to help her spin about and stab again. The knife went through the second walker's throat, and she quickly retracted the blade, trying to aim for the head. She sliced through it's cheek and she had to be fast to retract her hand so she wasn't bit. There was a shout as it was a close call, and as her adrenaline rushed she managed to hit the right angle to strike it through the temple.

She removed the knife and wordlessly moved on ahead, trembling head to toe and looking shaken.
